Differences among

Humidifiers, Air Purifier, and Dehumidifier

When you wake up in the morning or in the middle of a night, does the air in your room feel damp or dry? or are you sneezing more, have a “scratchy throat”? One of the major reason is the air.

Our homes are supposed to be our oasis. But pollen, dander, dust, and other irritants in the air can quickly reduce the air quality of your residential paradise, making it uncomfortable at home, and potentially even making you sick.
There are a few things you can do to help and devices you can buy, like an air purifier, a dehumidifier, and a humidifier.

However, as different climates and seasons call for different solutions, which device shoud be brought home? And what are the differences between humidifiers and dehumidifiers?
Let EPEIOS walks you through some brief comparisons.

Overview

Let's take a look at this comparison chart:

You need a humidifier if:

  • You are located in a place where climate is dry or arid
  • The moisture in your house needs to be increased. (The ideal humidity should be 30~50%)
  • You experience frequent nosebleeds or sinuses issues
  • You're experiencing a dry throat

An air purifier might be helpful if:

  • You are experiencing respiratory issues and cleaner air is in need.
  • You have allergies, and need to reduce things like dust, pet dander, and pollen from the air
  • During wildfires
  • You live in a particularly polluted city

A dehumidifier is what you needed if

  • Want to get rid of dust mites, or prevent their spread
  • would love to lower your home’s temperature without turning on the air conditioner
  • Are located near the equator and the coast. (very likely to have high humidity)
  • Find things getting mouldy easily

Of course, there're more scenarios and cases to be listed in addition to those above.

The key difference between humidifiers and dehumidifiers being that one adds moisture to the air and one takes it away, whilst air purifiers “clean” the air.
